Everyone loves a good Carolina Panthers or Charlotte Knights game, but there is another team in Charlotte that often goes unnoticed. The Charlotte Checkers are a minor-league professional hockey team, and their games are great fun for all ages. Who doesn’t love a good hockey fight? The Checkers play at Bojangles Coliseum, only 10 minutes from Uptown Charlotte and about 5 minutes from Plaza Midwood. Parking used to cost $5-10 per game, but it’s now FREE. Tubing the Catawba River – 25 minutes from Charlotte
Tubing is the perfect activity to escape the heat of a Charlotte summer. Just 25 minutes from Uptown, you can set off on your tubing adventure. Here’s what you need to know. The starting point for tubing is at the Catawba River Access point at Wylie Dam, south of Charlotte right into South Carolina. At the dam, you will find a FREE parking lot with spots for boat trailers and cars. If you are a fan of college basketball, the Final Four must be on your bucket list. As graduates of UNC, we spent four years of our lives dedicated to cheering for our beloved Tar Heels. UNC Basketball has been very successful in recent decades, but we never thought we would have the chance to actually experience the Final Four in person, but boy are we happy that we did!
